Finance Designations

Certified Financal Analyst (CFA)

Requirements:
- Have a bachelor's degree, be in the final year of your bachelor's degree program, or have four years of qualified, professional work experience or a combination of work and college experience that totals at least four years 
- Meet the professional conduct admission criteria 
- Must pass Level I, II, and III exams

Canadian Securities Courses(CSC)

Requirements:  Open to anyone who wants to learn how to make sound investment choices. Prior investment experience and post-secondary education in finance is a definite asset.

Certified Financial Planner(CFP)

Requirements: 
- Complete an FPSC Accredited Education Program, or 
- Hold a professional designation under the Approved Prior Credential Policy and have (3) three years of personal financial planning related work experience 
- FPSC Accredited Education Path

Alternatively, candidates may attempt the CFP Examination if they have three years of personal financial planning-related work experience and currently hold one of the following credentials: 
- Professional accountants (CA, CGA, CMA) 
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) 
- Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) 
- Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) 
- Members of provincial law society 
- PhD in finance, business or economics

Canadian Investment Manager ( CIM)

Requirements: There are two ways to earn the CIM designation

Stream 1: 
- Canadian Securities Course (CSC) 
- Investment Management Techniques (IMT) 
- Portfolio Management Techniques (PMT)

Stream 2: 
- Canadian Securities Course (CSC) 
- Wealth Management Essentials (WME) 
- Portfolio Management Techniques (PMT)

Derivative Market Specialist (DMS)

Requirements: 
- Foundation Course: Derivatives Fundamentals Course

Plus any four elective courses* 
- Options Licensing Course 
- Futures Licensing Course

- Financial Markets Risk Management Course

Financial Management Advisor(FMA)

Requirements: There are two ways to earn the FMA Designation

Requirements:
Applicants must already hold a recognized financial planning designation (CFP, PFP, RFP) or have completed:
- CSI's Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and Professional Financial Planning Course (PFPC), or 
- CSI's Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and Wealth Management Essentials (WME) course.

Applicants must have at least two years of experience working directly with, or in support of, the wealth management needs of retail clients.

Fellow of CSI

Requirements: 
1. Education - You must already hold one of the following designations: 
- Derivatives Market Specialist (DMS) 
- Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) 
- Financial Management Advisor (FMA)

2. You must complete one of three CSI licensing courses: 
- The Conduct and Practices Handbook Course (CPH) 
- The Branch Managers Course (BMC) 
- The Partners, Directors and Officers Exam Course

3. You must also complete one additional course (for DMS designation holders, the CSC can be used as your additional course). 

4. Ethics - You must complete either the CSI Ethics Module and Case Study or the Ethics Seminar.

5. Experience - You need to have at least five years of financial services industry experience within the past eight years.

6. Your application must also be accompanied by an endorsement letter submitted and signed by your direct supervisor as well as a current FCSI sponsor.

Chartered Insurance Professional

Certified Risk Professional

Requirements: 
- Completion of a Bachelor's Degree 
- A resume that details your work history 
- The one-time application fee 
- Agreement to uphold the CRP Code of Ethics 
- Successful completion of the examinations 
- Letters of Recommendation and Attestation by the candidate's management

Chartered Business Valuators

- Complete a total of six courses in the Professional Programme 
- Have a minimum of 1,500 hours of suitable experience 
- Have a signed recommendation from a member (sponsor) 
- Pass the CICBV's Membership Entrance Examination (MEE)
