CMA Presents: Ski Trip 2012

UCS Stock Challenge

The Annual UCS Stock Challenge is the most anticipated capital market competition held at UTM. Students will compete for a month using the Rotman Portfolio Manager and invest an amount of $1,000,000. Five contestants with the highest portfolio values at the end of the trading time period will then present their strategies to a panel of judges. The winner of the 3rd Annual UCS Stock Challenge was awarded a guaranteed interview with the TMX group for a summer analyst position.

The Undergraduate Commerce Society is trying to raise awareness for the Black history month for the very first time this year. Join us is in a national annual observance for remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

Check UCS Facebook page to learn interesting facts and quotes on Black History month and tell your friends about it. On February 24th to February 28th answer some trivia questions based on these facts and quotes and win interesting prizes.

Capital IQ Traiing Session

Given the overwhelming interest in Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters, the LKC FLC has added yet another financial research software, CapitalIQ, to its ranks! CapitalIQ is a research oriented software aimed at assisting analysts find and compile data. It doesn't matter if you're looking for RIM's financial statements in the hopes of making a quick profit or whether you need to finish the assignment that requires you to research a firm, CapitalIQ will definitely help you out!

The first training session for CapitalIQ will take place in the FLC on February 7th from 1:30pm-3:00pm. Come join us as we learn this new software taught directly by a trainer from CapitalIQ!

The Undergraduate Commerce Society, the largest Academic Society, is looking for the new 2012-2013 Executive Council. If you are hard working, self-motivated, like making new friends, want to work on a team, like handling budgets and balance sheets, and want to get involved, then this academic society is for you!

Throughout the year, our 18 person council holds social, professional development, networking and charitable events. 50+ events actually. We also provide commerce wear (t-shirts, lanyards, sweaters and more) and our bi-semester magazine! Along with managing our websites. If you are interested in any of the things UCS does, and want to get involved in the largest academic society on campus, I encourage you to find out more!

Bloomberg assessment test (BAT)

Over 20,000 Employers use this system to find suitable candidates for their company, and you can get an internship or full-time position worldwide. Students can write the Bloomberg Assessment Test (BAT) which is a 3 hour test. Employers use these grades to pre-screen candidates then they will offer candidates interview. All candidate information is kept confidential and the candidate chooses which employers they would like to release their information to.

FAIR FOR HOPE

Event Description:

Fair for Hope is an annual event at UTM. It brings together different student clubs together and raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society with various activities such as shaving head, getting pied, henna applications etc.

This year we are raising funds for the pediatric Cancer. Every year just in Canada 14 of 10000 children diagnosed with cancer. 70% of which is curable if caught in the early stages.

We are trying to make a difference, change lives.

Thomson Reuters training session + Altus Securities Office Tour

Altus Securities is an investment firm that deals in equities, fixed income trading, mutual fund trading and derivatives. The tour would last from 10:30am to 11:30am and then we will head over to Thomson Reuters.

UCS Finance is a new initiative that seeks to provide Finance students with career and academic related information, as well as opportunities for you to interact with fellow students and other business professionals within the community. Working together with our Corporate Partners and outstanding faculty members, UCS provides students with a solid understanding of the skills and techniques necessary to excel in the capital markets world.

By focusing on workshops and informational session alike, UCS is striving to provide theoretical and practical knowledge that will come in handy for student interested in pursuing a career in the financial services industry. HIRING A TEAM OF HOPE 2011

Fair for Hope is an annual event at University of Toronto Mississauga. It brings together different student clubs together and raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society, with various activities such as shaving heads, getting pied in the face ,henna applications, video games etc. It is the largest event on campus and is sure a unique one.

Getting into graduate school can be a challenging task and preparation is the key to success. Students who will attend Princeton Review session will gain insight on how the admission process works. This is not only for commerce students, it is for every student in almost every field; learn about the MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, GRE, SAT, ACT, PSAT, OAT and more.

 

Run for the cure (CIBC)

The Run for the Cure is Canada's largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, and education and health promotion initiatives.

The Undergraduate Commerce Society at University of Toronto-Mississauga, displayed outstanding enthusiasm and zeal last year and raised $10,677. University of Toronto was ranked one of the top 10 fundraisers last year. Students, friends and family came out showed outstanding sincerity to the cause.

This year the Undergraduate Commerce Society is back with more enthusiasm, we are determined to beat our record this year and exceed $12,000.

DESCRIPTION

HOW DOES THE MENTORSHIP WORK:

Mentors apply online with their resumes and the selection process is based on two steps:

1) Applications will be screened and successful Mentor candidates will be invited to the Mentorship Social event, taking place in the evening at Spigel Hall on Thursday, September 29th. Through a series of interactive activities, Mentees will have the opportunity to get to know the Mentor candidates and by the end of the event, they will select their top Mentor choices.

2) After the Mentorship Social, successfully matched Mentors will be notified of their Mentees, and the mentorship will begin!

The UCS Mentorship program runs for the entire academic year till the end of March. Mentors are required to provide regular feedback to the program coordinator as the program progresses. 
Mentors must commit to contacting their mentee on a regular basis to see how they are doing and letting them know and encouraging them to participate in UCS and other campus events. There will be 2 social events held specifically for the participants in the mentorship program. There will be one in each semester and attendance is MANDATORY. In addition, there will be a Mentorship Volunteer event, where mentors and mentees will come together and participate in an event that will provide the students a valuable opportunity to give back to the community. It will not only enable students to connect with society and make it a better place, but it will also allow students to expand their network and strengthen their interpersonal skills.
Mentors and mentees are both expected to stay in constant touch with other and meet regularly. In addition, communication between the mentor and mentee(s) is encouraged via phone, email or facebook during the year. 

 

 

Bloomberg + BMO Trading floor visit

Hey Finance students!

Have you ever dropped by the Finance Learning Centre at the UTM Library and wished you knew how to use those fancy software? Or have you heard your profs talk about Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters and not known what they were?

The Undergraduate Commerce Society is hosting the first of its events in collaboration with the FLC to provide interested students with opportunities to learn the Bloomberg software and network with Bloomberg employees.

On Thursday, Sept 22nd we will head over to the Bloomberg office in downtown Toronto. Students will get a chance to train with Bloomberg employees and figure out the easiest and smartest ways to utilize the software. The event is scheduled from 9:30am-11:30am and will take place at 199 Bay Street. We will be following this up with a visit to a trading floor (details to be out shortly) so do keep some free time afterwards!

The dress code for the event is business professional.

Time:There will be half hour slots available for you to register in for the group interviews, from 9am – 4pm.
There will be 15 minute slots available for you to register in for the one-on-one interview from 9am – 4pm.

This is your opportunity to learn about the BIG 4 interview process and gain useful feedback from the firm representatives. You will also be able to connect more exclusively during recruitment season and make a positive impression on the recruiters. Accounting employers will be on campus to offer mock interviews for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year Accounting students. The employers participating are KPMG, PwC, ...Deloitte, and E &Y.
