Create Possibilities as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA)

Mira Sirotic, CMA

In grade 11, when Mira Sirotic first heard about the CMA designation, her career aspirations included everything from becoming an actuary, a doctor, and a meteorologist. Thanks to a short CMA promotional video which profiled dynamic business professionals working in a wide variety of industries (SPAR Aerospace, Sony Music, Nike Canada), she chose the path to become a CMA. After holding 8 positions during her rewarding 10 year career at Imperial Oil Ltd., Mira is now celebrating her one year anniversary as CMA Ontario’s Regional Director of Marketing and Communications – GTA West. Please contact Mira for any questions about the CMA program: 416-482-5556, gtawest@cma-ontario.org.

CMAs aren't just accountants, they are innovative business professionals! Certified Management Accountants strategically execute creativity, innovation and solid accounting practices to drive value creation in organizations across all industry segments. By leading the advancement and integration of accounting, management and strategy, CMAs don’t just measure value, they create it!

CMA brings together a powerful combination of skills to support your career success
Thanks to the rigorous CMA Professional Program, CMAs powerfully combine accounting expertise with professional management skills and solid strategy in order to bring leadership, innovation, and an integrated perspective to organizational decision-making.  During the CMA Strategic Leadership Program (SLP), not only will you develop and hone your “functional” (technical) competencies, but the SLP also ensures that you develop those critical “enabling” (professional) competencies that will help you advance to any position you desire in your career (e.g. great communication, team-work, leadership, ethics, problem-solving and decision-making skills).  With this unique and powerfully balanced skill-set, employers in all industry segments look to CMAs to create value in a wide array of business functions, including: strategic planning & analysis;  sales and marketing; information technology;  human resources; operations; and, of course, accounting and finance.

It’s no surprise that CMAs enjoy high salaries and flexible, rewarding careers with opportunities as diverse as you can imagine.  From typical positions such as a Business/Financial Analyst, Controller, Director of Finance or Manager of Financial Reporting & Analysis, CMAs also advance to C-Suite roles (CEO, CFO, COO, CIO, CAO) and thrive as entrepreneurs.  As a CMA, you can create your own possibilities with an opportunity to work in virtually any sector of the economy, for companies of all sizes, at all levels and functions within an organization.

Our Goal

This year, we hope to provide students at UTM with personal development opportunities through professional networking, academic mentorship, philanthropy, and socially engaging events. As UCS is the largest academic society on campus, we hope to give back to our community by raising more money for charitable causes. Finally, we want you to leave us to go on to do bigger and better things, but we hope that after everything you will smile when you look back on your time spent with us.
